LOGAN, Alexander MacKenzie "Sandy"LOGAN, Alexander
MacKenzie "Sandy" - 64, Cottage Street, Pictou, died peacefully at
home January 10, 2006, with his loving wife Lynne and children at
his side. Born in Pictou on May 6, 1941, he was a son of the late
Harlan and Helen (Reid) Logan. A graduate of Pictou Academy, he was
a lifelong member, and had been a Sunday school teacher and elder at
Pictou United Church. Sandy retired in 1994 from Scott Maritimes
Limited where he worked for 27 years as a pipefitter and was a
founding member of their Emergency Response Team. A 40-year member
and former training officer of the Pictou Fire Department, he was
also a former member of the New Caledonia Masonic Lodge No. 11,
Pictou; former president of the Pictou West Liberal Association and
president of Sea View Cemetery since 1977. A lifelong resident of
Pictou, Sandy had tremendous pride in his town. Dad loved to travel,
meet new people, and most of all share his stories. He enjoyed
yearly trips to Florida with Lynne and spending summers at their
cottage in Toney River. Sandy always had several projects on the go,
building, restoring, or repairing anything, whether for himself or
others, particularly his antique Mustangs. In 1999, Sandy proudly
drove his 1965 Mustang convertible as it carried the Stanley Cup
through the town of New Glasgow. Dad relaxed by reading Clive
Cussler novels, completing the lexicons, brewing beer and wine, and
going on road trips with friends to the States for car shows and
races. In earlier years, he enjoyed skeet shooting, curling, playing
and coaching hockey. Most recently, Dad developed a new interest in
the sport of Earth Dog Competition. In his last months, Sandy
enjoyed visits from his cousins and friends and the time spent with
his wife and children, particularly a trip to Boston in April to see
his son and daughter-in-law run the Boston Marathon in his honour.
He spent his last year of life surrounded by the love and constant
care of his devoted wife and dear daughter. Sandy leaves behind
Lynne (McIlveen), his wife of 40 years; son, Derek and his wife
Emily, of Boston, Mass.; daughter, Dee, Pictou. He is also survived
by brother, John, Caledonia; aunt, Jean Henderson, Plymouth; uncles,
Everett Reid and James Reid, both of Welsford, as well as cousins,
nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Mary.
Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9
p.m. in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held
Saturday at 11 a.m. in Pictou United Church, Rev. Mary-Beth
Moriarity officiating. Burial will be in SeaView Cemetery. A
reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only
